Configuration Management Analyst

Role Overview

The Configuration Management Analyst is responsible for maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and governance of configuration data across the organisation’s IT environment. This role ensures that the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) reflects current infrastructure, applications, and services, supporting effective IT service management, risk control, and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and govern the CMDB, ensuring configuration items (CIs) and their relationships are accurate, complete, and up to date.

  • Enforce configuration management processes aligned to ITIL and organisational standards.

  • Collaborate with IT operations, asset management, change management, and architecture teams to control CI lifecycle changes.

  • Perform regular data quality checks and remediation activities across completeness, correctness, and compliance.

  • Support audits and compliance activities by providing CMDB evidence and reporting.

  • Investigate and resolve data discrepancies, integration issues, and CI reconciliation conflicts.

  • Produce reports, dashboards, and insights to support operational and governance forums.

  • Drive continuous improvement of configuration management processes, tooling, and controls.

  • Support integration between systems (e.g., ServiceNow, discovery tools, asset systems, architecture tools such as LeanIX).

  • Provide guidance and training to stakeholders on CMDB standards, data ownership, and governance.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Experience working with CMDB platforms (e.g., ServiceNow CMDB).

  • Strong understanding of ITIL (Configuration, Change, Incident, and Asset Management).

  • Knowledge of data governance, data quality frameworks, and lifecycle management.

  • Experience with IT infrastructure, applications, and service modelling (CSDM preferred).

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage stakeholders across technical and business teams.

  • Experience supporting audits, compliance, or risk controls (desirable).

Success Measures

  • Improved CMDB data quality (completeness, correctness, compliance).

  • Reduction in data discrepancies and audit issues.

  • Effective support of change, incident, and problem management processes.

  • Stakeholder satisfaction with CMDB reliability and reporting.

Qualifications

  • ITIL Foundation 4 certification (preferred).

  • ITIL Intermediate Courses (desirable).

  • ServiceNow Certification (Certified Implementation Specialist – Data Foundations (CMDB and CSDM) (CIS-DF)) (preferred).
